| Luvcorfu success on A Place in the Sun |
Luvcorfu Properties got four out of four when the UK Channel 4 relocation show, A Place in the Sun visited Corfu in October. The advance team viewed over 30 properties with nine different agents in order to choose the four featured properties. To avoid bias, a maximum of two properties can be picked from any one agent.
‘Two of our properties were among the four chosen,’ reported Luvcorfu director Harry Tsoukalas. ‘Then we found out that the other two were also chosen from the selection offered by one agent - my brother Terry, whose office in Acharavi specializes in the north of the island.’
But Luvcorfu also has an interest in these two properties, as Harry explained.
‘One of the properties, the Spring Garden Houses , was a redevelopment project that we found for an investor, and we have been part of the refurbishing process from the start. It’s also for sale through Luvcorfu. The other house they picked to present on the show was a resale, a restored olive press near Magoulades. I handled the original sale - in fact, it was the third property I sold when we started up four years ago.’
The Corfu Heritage Preservation Foundation, of which Harry is President, advised on the renovation. Harry remembers that it was ‘a fight every inch of the way’ to maintain the traditional appearance of the property.
At the time of writing, which property the buyers went for had not been revealed.
‘The best result for us, long term, would be if they choose the olive press, even though it’s not our office that’s selling it,’ said Harry. ‘However, the building is actually serving as a template for a one of a small development of three new-builds we’ve been marketing at Arillas, and it’s on our website as an indication of what they will look like. They will be built to resemble traditional village houses, using a lot of reused old materials, and will look as if they’ve been standing there for centuries. Building standards will of course conform with the law, and internally they will incorporate everything necessary for modern living.’
Luvcorfu’s Saint George office sold all three off-plan within two months.
‘The success of this prototype project means we will be building others,’ continued Harry. ‘So if the buyers go for it, it will be fantastic publicity for our developments.’
The two properties picked from Luvcorfu were the Gardener House in Gastouri , and Cloisters, a beautiful Venetian property in Sinarades that requires renovation.
‘Whichever of the properties they choose, it will be a boost for us,’ said Harry.
