You can buy a house that was featured in the TV show A Place in the Sun for
a reduced price! Reduced from 98,000 euros to 80,000 euros!!! It’s an old
end-of-terrace house with plenty of space, in a heritage mountain village
high above Corfu’s most desirable region - the sought-after North East
Coast. Amongst the four properties Amanda Lamb showed the couple in the
Corfu programme, this one was the favourite, though in the end they decided
not to buy at that time.
The property is in good structural condition, and mainly needs renovation
internally. With installation of a bathroom, it could be occupied whilst
renovations are proceeding.
The house is on two floors, with the lower level comprising a single-space
storeroom, which would make a lovely farmhouse-style kitchen. Currently, the
upper level is reached by way of an outside staircase at the side of the
building. Entry is into a large room which was used as a kitchen. Due to the
slope of the land from rear to front, this is at ground level, so that the
upper floor is larger than the lower one. The kitchen opens into a sitting
room which stretches the entire length of the building, with windows onto
the view. Two bedrooms open from this room. Replanning of the space, bearing
in mind that it requires an internal staircase, could give at least three
bedrooms.
The garden, which boasts a rare white mulberry tree, is the other side of a
pedestrian right of way. It has a sterna (traditional water reservoir) which
could be used as an outdoor dining area, looking out over the view over the
Corfu Channel to the Albanian mountains across the sea. The house has road
access to the door, and there is plenty of parking only a few steps away.
Mengoulas is a stone-built mountain village dating from Byzantine times.
While it is almost deserted, most of the houses are in good shape. One large
property at the foot of the village is rented by a top quality travel
company. Mengoulas is a couple of minutes drive from Porta, the focal
settlement of the area, and is no more than 15 minutes from the beach at
Agios Stefanos and the excellent resort facilities of Kassiopi.
