| Luvcorfu reunites old schoolmates |
Two English women resident in North West Corfu have discovered that they were schoolmates in the UK during the 1970s. ‘We were in the same year at the same school, but in different classes,’ said Debbie Flynn Mouzakiti, who with her husband Mike runs a jewelry shop, Midas, on Sidari High Street. Schoolmate Kim Yeardye, who works in an office just three doors down the street, said that she thought Debbie looked familiar.
The two women saw each other every day, but only found out their connection when Debbie read about the opening of Luvcorfu Properties’ new Sidari office.
‘I read in the Sidari News that Luvcorfu had opened an office almost next door to our shop, so I went along to have a look. I started chatting with Kim, who works in the office, and we got around to talking about where we lived in the UK. I said, near Great Missenden, and Kim said, I went to school in Great Missenden, to Misbourne School, and I said, so did I. Then we compared our ages and dates, and we were in the same year!’
Kim has worked in Sidari since the start of the season in May. ‘Because we were both English, we always said hello to each other,’ she said. ‘But I was dumbstruck to find out we were schoolmates.’
‘It was fantastic,’ said Debbie. ‘I’ve moved around a lot and there's no-one I can share memories with. I think your school memories are so important.’ Now, Debbie and Kim are catching up on their memories of friends, teachers and events at the school they both attended in the 1970s, thousands of miles from Corfu.
Anyone who was at Misbourne School in Great Missenden, Bucks, between 1970 and 1975,
please Contact Debbie to arrange a reunion in Sidari.
